Join us at London’s oldest polo club to learn the art of this royal game. This full-on half day experience is aimed to teach you the basics of this most traditional game.

On arrival at the exquisite location you will be greeted by members of the coaching staff who, over a hot drink will talk you through the rules of the game.  You will then get hands-on with some of the polo players training tools. The first stage in learning is to practise striking the ball with mallets whilst on foot (trickier than it sounds!). Once you have the basics, you will play a practice match on foot.  The next stage is to mount the wooden practice horses and take aim at the ball with a full sized polo stick. This is a chance to practise the full repertoire of shots used in the game.  Thirdly you will mount a very real horse and learn the basics of how to maintain control in play, and then you’ll practise your shots whilst riding - a real test!

Finally you will have the opportunity to play for real!  Under the guidance of the head coach you will take to the polo field in teams and play a “chukka” (one of the periods a full game of polo is divided into). This really is a royal experience!  Playing polo for real is surely a taste of English history you will never forget! There will be an award ceremony for your group at the end of the session. Well mannered horses are included, of course!

Key facts:

•  Foot mallets – learning to hit with a smaller stick on foot and, if a group, playing against each other in two teams, similar to 5-a-side football on a  smaller ground.

•  Wooden horses – learning to hit the ball whilst sat on a wooden horse with a full size polo stick, backhand, forehand, nearside and offside.

•  Riding, then progressing to the stick and ball ground to try the real thing!

•  A mini chukka for those deemed safe enough to take part by our head coach, suitable for 4 or more players.

•  Presentation of certificates and trophies for the most improved and best players by our head  coach and instructors.

NB -  Cost excludes meals, a luxury picnic or a dinner overlooking the polo grounds, all of which can be added at an additional cost. Contact us for details.
