Traditional Woodland  Falconry Experience

on an English Country Estate

A special opportunity to take a private experience with Extraordinary London’s falconer this experience takes place on 50 acres of private ground in the Hertfordshire countryside, close to the quaint village of Sarratt and within 30 minutes of central London.

You will be welcomed by Grant who is one of the country's leading falconers. He lives and breathes this way of life and over a cup of hot tea or freshly ground coffee on arrival, will talk you through his passion.

After introductions and refreshments you will have the opportunity to see over 30 birds of prey including a peregrine falcon and a golden eagle. You will be introduced to the birds individually and talked through their history and talents.  The birds will all be in aviaries or on display stands and you will have exclusive access to these areas which are not open to the general public.

The next part of the experience is your first chance to get hands on with the birds!  You will be driven (with some of the birds) by off road vehicle to a display field.  You will learn how to handle the birds correctly and how to fly them to the glove. Next comes the opportunity to work a peregrine falcon to a lure this is the fastest animal on the planet and you will see it stoop at speeds of over 200mph to the lure, one of the most magnificent sites in the animal kingdom and truly a spectacle that will live long in your memory!

The third stage of the experience is a hands-on hawking walk through the beautiful grounds, using the skills you’ve learned earlier in the day.  Grant will guide you through a wild and ancient woodland and you will fly a team of harris hawks and learn about how these unique birds work as a teams to hunt prey.

Finally, you will be driven back to the lodge and have an opportunity to take photographs with the birds. Grant is also the proud owner of some rare breed dogs. If you are a dog lover, then this is an exciting opportunity to meet them. You will then bid your farewells and head back to reality!
